Black Swan eyeliner is officially back and it looks like it will be one of the biggest makeup trends of 2022. Last week, not only did we see Kanye ‘Ye’ West’s new love, Julia Fox, sporting the eyeliner, but during the Chanel Haute Couture SS22 show, models walked the catwalk with jet black eyeliner around their eyes.
Not thin lines, but a full contour of black eyeliner.

The makeup trend was previously created by the the the movie Black Swan, hence the name. Here, lead actress Natalie Portman wore a graphic design with red contact lenses, one of the most famous images from the film. Actress Julia Fox goes for a more modern version (which was reportedly chosen by Kanye West). She opts for a minimalist base so that the attention is drawn to her eyes:

Julia Fox chose a Black Swan eyeliner during Paris Haute Couture Week for a reason. Fashion house Chanel also had its models appear on the catwalk with jet black eyes. Yet Chanel went for a softer version of the make-up trend, but an eyeliner with a double wing. With it, the models appeared during the brand’s high-profile Haute Couture show with an impressive makeup look.

Still more of a fan of subtle eyeliner? Then take inspiration from the popular series Euphoria. In the second season of the series we see character Maddy with a double eyeliner. Makeup artist Doniella Davy, shares a video in which she shows how you can create this look yourself. This eyeliner is perfect for a night out, but can also be easily worn in everyday life
She uses cotton swabs to make sure the eyeliner is as sharp as possible. Mistakes are part of the game and practice makes perfect. In any case, there is plenty of inspiration and that eyeliner doesn’t have to be as thin as it used to be.
