Coperni manages to blow us away every fashion week with their innovative designs. Just like now, because the brand is making history with a bag that is 99 percent made of air. And it’s sturdy, too.
When we think of the highlight of Paris Fashion Week 2022, there is really only one brand that immediately comes to mind. Coperni had Bella Hadid walk the catwalk during their show, in her (almost) nude and was sprayed by a trio of designers with a chemical dye-like substance that magically transformed into a fabric dress in no time. Innovative and groundbreaking.
Coperni launches bag made of air
That Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant (the men behind French company Coperni) love to play and experiment with materials is nothing new. Yet time and again they break the Internet with their seemingly impossible designs. Or should we now call them inventions?
The new fall/winter 2024 collection is all about space travel, and the collection has one flagship item: the bag made of air. It looks like the iconic Swipe Bag (previously also made with stone and glass), but is actually 99 percent air. Coperni joined forces with Ioannis Michalous, a visual artist, academic and researcher based in Greece, to create the new Swipe design.
To realize the idea, Sébastien and Arnaud Meyer used a substance called Aerogel, a silicon-based solid used by NASA to trap stardust. This material is a thousand times less dense than glass, making it primarily composed of light. By using this, they created a bag that weighs only thirty grams, but is nevertheless incredibly sturdy. You should actually think of the bag as a kind of fashionable cloud. We wanted to take a moment for this anyway. Coperni just did it again.
